On Appearances……

People today are so caught up with appearances. I look around and see how so many people fret over how they look and what other people think about how they look or how they are percieved and it truly makes me sad for them. I will admit that growing up in the Bronx I was bombarded by a false sense of importance in how I look. What kind of sneakers that I wore, what kind of jeans, shirts, hats. It was even important what kind of bookbag you wore to school! If you didn’t have a JanSport with at least five tassles on the zipper you were slacking. None of it was important, in fact it was a distraction. Boy was I lucky, I didn’t really care about those things, at least not when I was a pre-teen. In junior high I felt the pressure and when I broke and my grades slipped my mother stripped me of all of the clothes and sneakers, replacing them with slacks and shoes. Thank you, mom, because that opened my eyes to reality. My appearance changed and so did my attitude. My grades went back up and I was on the top of my game, believe it or not, I preferred my new wardrobe to the old one.
The media is designed to distract us. With movies and advertisements, magazines and fashion shows, infomercials and beauty contests we are constantly ravaged by sensory information that is programmed to condition us into feeling like we are less than special if we don’t “look” a certain way or have a particular swagger. Some of you don’t realize that none of it matters. The only reason that you want those jeans or that blush is because you saw someone you idolize promote it and that triggered something in your brain which effectively gave you the impulse to “need” it. Now you’ll go through Sheol and high-water to get it, no matter what. I promise that the energy you are putting towards that endeavor could be used for something much more gratifying. In this world, the rulers have made it so that the acquisition of paper money is one of the most important keys of survival, and they have given us so many opportunities to spend that imaginary life bread on something other than the means to survive. And that is where appearances come in to play. So, some of you want to work and slave yourself out in order to make a paycheck that will give you enough of an edge to attract the right person or situation and you do so without complaining because you’ve been programmed to want “the finer things in life”. What kind of life is this? The answer is: a facade. Appearances don’t matter. They don’t tell you what or who a person truly is, no, you have to discover that on your own. Peace.

As some of my readers may know I am a single dad. It is what it is. A2 and I, whoa……….wait, let me explain his nickname and truly geek you out: I am a HUGE fan of Star Wars and my son is a junior with our names being Anthony Darryl Bowers so I nicknamed him A2-D2. Silly? Not to me!!!!! But, I digress……..A2 and I have been inseparable since his birth and honestly I wouldn’t know what to do with my life without him. He is now 4 years old and I have had him on my own since he was 10 months old. This has been the most challenging, rewarding and most humbling years of my life. He has an amazing personality that bristles with curiosity, honesty and humor! I don’t know about other fathers but as far as I’m concerned I am the luckiest one on Earth! Another thing that I don’t know is what the future holds. I do know that as long as my son and I are together we can’t be stopped. A2-D2 is a name you should get familiar with because I will be posting about him regularly!

Starting up……..

I’m here! Yeah, so my sister suggested to me awhile ago that I should start a blog. Well here it is, somewhere for my brain to poop out all of its zany idealistic rantings. Fun, fun! Right now I am eating sunflower seed kernels. I had to share them with A2 who keeps dropping them on the floor and who is now telling me that he’s finished and I’m not. He is such a teaser! All that is on my mind are the inner workings of selfish and inconsiderate people. I can agree that we are all selfish to a degree, I mean we have to be selfish in order to survive from a certain point of view. Oh well, you win some; you lose some, right? Anyways, check back often because I’m going to try and keep the blogs coming! Peace!

About Facebook………

I’ve noticed that some people get on Facebook strictly to create a false persona. With wild names, misleading photos detailing their regular day-to-day affairs and fraudulent words/sayings they use it to make themselves feel better about being dull. Social media is actually a very dangerous medium my friends and if you fall under this category then I would insist that you reevaluate your reasons for being on social media sites before it’s too late for your psyche and self-image to recover from the damage that is being inflicted upon them.

By allowing your “friends” to LIKE and/or COMMENT on posts Facebook has unleashed a deadly virus of jealousy and bitterness, laced with hate and vengeance. It is allowing your base emotions to overrule your logical minds. I know that most people are reading this (or stopped somewhere at the beginning) and might be thinking, “Oh, he’s so pretentious! He thinks he knows it all.” I don’t hold it against you if you do feel this way. I will gladly admit that I don’t know sh*t. Period. I am a student of life and only wish to impress some wisdom upon those who would listen. That being said, think about this post and argue against it if you want. But by all means ……..THINK!!!!!!!!!
